Springs, pools (an octagonal Hispano factory no doubt), laundry ... water ... water ... .. And orange, pomegranate, fig and walnut trees in an orchard ... sandy undoubtedly had to be well defended from Roman times, at least. Surprising because this oasis among the parched countryside.
After thorough and admirable work of the cavers, scuba divers (who plunged into the unknown and flooded galleries), it seems that it is a "water cave" carved by man to dam the spring, then used in a dry season as a burial place, given the grave goods and skeletal remains from Roman times that the locals found a few decades ago.
